VVT on Race Core is closed-loop cam angle. You need a cam-position input (Hall or VR on a digital/VR pin) and an oil-control valve (high-side or low-side PWM, depending on the valve). Dual-VANOS / dual-VVT wants two cams and two valves — Race Core has the pins.
- Cam sensor: Digital 2 or VR 2 by convention. The cam pattern must be a supported VVT pattern, not a random missing-tooth.
- OCV: high-side 1/2 are convenient because many OEM valves are high-side in the factory loom. PWM frequency per the valve.
- Oil: VVT does nothing until oil is hot and at pressure. Do not tune cam targets on a 20 °C idle and expect them to hold on a hot pit lane.
- Targets: intake advance in the midrange, retard at high RPM is the usual NA story; turbo engines vary. Tune against torque, not against a copied table.
