01 Getting Started

Safety & warnings

The rules that keep engines, looms and people intact.

Electrical

  • Disconnect the battery negative before unplugging AMPSEAL connectors under load.
  • Fuse +12 V Raw (B18) and +12 V MR (B23) independently. Typical: 5 A for ECU logic, 15–25 A for the main-relay feed depending on ETB and high-side loads.
  • Power grounds (A17, A18, A24, B19) go to the engine block or a dedicated ECU ground stud — not to a painted chassis screw.
  • Sensor ground is not power ground. Never splice CLT/IAT/MAP grounds to the block.
  • Ignition outputs are 5 V. Connecting them to a coil negative will destroy the driver.

Fuel and fire

  • Fuel pump must be ECU-controlled (or an inertia switch in series). A pump that runs with ignition-on and a leaking injector will fill a cylinder.
  • After a misfire or flooded start, disable spark and clear the cylinders before a wide-open restart.
  • Mount the ECU away from exhaust, turbos and brake-fluid reservoirs. See Mounting.

Engine

  • Set injector flow, stoichiometric AFR and required-fuel before the first start. A 10× error in req-fuel will either lean-hole a piston or wash the bores.
  • Confirm firing order and coil assignment on a timing light or by unplugging one coil at a time on a known-good idle — not at 7000 rpm.
  • Enable oil-pressure and coolant protection before a dyno pull. Race Core will not guess your limits.

Race Core is sold for closed-course competition and off-highway engines. Emissions-controlled road use is the installer and tuner's responsibility in their jurisdiction.
