VR versus Hall, polarity, shield and which pins to use.

VR (two-wire magnetic)
Use VR 1 for crank. VR 2 for cam or a VR wheel-speed sensor.
- VR 1+: B5. VR 1−: B13.
- VR 2+: B4. VR 2−: B12.
- Shield to sensor GND, ECU end only.
Polarity is not standardised. If the missing-tooth gap looks inverted in the trigger logger (a long low then a long high instead of a single clean long gap), swap + and −. That is the whole VR debug procedure.
Hall / digital (three-wire)
Use Digital 1 for a Hall crank if you are not using VR 1. Cam Hall sensors go to Digital 2, 3, …
- Power: 5 V or 12 V per the sensor (most modern Halls are happy on 5 V; some OEM cam sensors want 12 V from C11).
- Ground: sensor GND.
- Signal: Digital n. The ECU supplies a pull-up on the digital inputs; you usually do not add another.
Routing
Keep trigger cables away from coil primaries, injector looms and the alternator B+ run. Cross power cables at 90°. If a carbon-fibre tunnel is your only path, that is fine — just do not tie-wrap the crank sensor to an ignition lead.
