FAQ

The questions that show up on every Race Core install.

Is this a rusEFI Proteus F7?

It is based on a Proteus F7. Same STM32F767, same AMPSEAL pinout. Firmware compatibility is rusEFI, FOME and Core EFI — pick one and use that bundle’s INI and console. Forum posts about Proteus F7 hardware still apply; firmware menus differ between the three.

Which firmware should I run?

rusEFI if you want the widest community and Lua examples. FOME if that is the image you already tune. Core EFI if you want the build Core EFI ships and supports. Do not mix an INI from one with a binary from another.

Can I run dumb coils?

Not from the ignition pins. Add an igniter module (or IGN-1A / smart coils). The 5 V outputs will not survive a coil primary.

Can I run low-Z injectors?

Not directly. Ballast them to >8 Ω or use an external peak-and-hold box.

How many cylinders?

12 coil outputs and 16 low-sides. Sequential V12 is a thermal maybe at high RPM; V8 sequential is comfortable. Four- and six-cylinder are the bulk of installs. Rotary is a supported firmware path (see rusEFI rotary docs) with leading/trailing on ignition outputs.

Can I do ETB and a stepper idle?

ETB 1 is the throttle. ETB 2 can be a bipolar stepper. Unipolar steppers no. On a DBW car you rarely need a separate idle valve — idle is a blade angle.

Why did my tune vanish after an update?

F7 full-erase recovery wipes flash. Save the msq before DFU. Incremental OpenBLT updates normally keep settings; the units that need a full erase are the exception, and they are real.

Is there a default password?

TunerStudio project passwords are yours. The ECU does not ship a hidden vendor lock. If you set a TS password, write it down.

Where do I buy one?

Race Core, Core EFI V4 and the 7-inch dash are on the Core EFI shop — coreefi.co.za (Race Shop). This manual is the product documentation for the Race Core F7 unit.

Where does support live?

WhatsApp Core EFI on +27 71 478 2660. This knowledge base is the product manual. Firmware bugs for rusEFI or FOME also live in those projects’ forums; hardware pinout and Race Core conventions live here.
