Drive-by-wire

Pedal tracking, redundancy, PID and limp behaviour.

Electronic throttle is a control loop with a hard safety case. The pedal is a request. The blade is a motor. Two TPS sensors and two pedal sensors have to agree or the ECU must close the blade and light a fault. Do not disable redundancy to “make it work.”

Bring-up order

  1. 01Bench

    Intake off the engine. Fuel and spark disabled. +12 V MR present.

  2. 02Calibrate pedals

    Closed and WOT on both pedal sensors. Confirm they track (one rising, one often inverted). Set the max disagreement.

  3. 03Calibrate TPS

    Command closed, capture TPS 1/2. Command WOT, capture. Direction: if the blade drives open when you command closed, invert the motor or the direction bit.

  4. 04PID

    Start with low P, tiny I, a little D if it overshoots. The blade should step to a 20 % command without slamming or buzzing. Buzzing is too much P or a loose blade.

  5. 05Limp

    Unplug TPS 2 on the bench. The blade must go to the limp / closed position, not stay where it was. If it stays, the fault action is wrong — fix it before the engine runs.

Idle and blip

Idle is an adder on top of the closed angle. Downshift blip is a timed angle vs RPM. Both are easier once tracking is tight. If tracking is sloppy, idle and blip will hunt.
