First connection

Power the ECU on the bench, enumerate USB, and get a live gauge cluster.

Do this on the bench before the ECU goes in the car. You want to know the box talks, not discover a USB problem at 23:00 with a half-finished loom.

Minimum bench power

  • B18 (+12 V Raw) to a fused 12 V supply (5 A).
  • B19 plus at least one of A17 / A18 / A24 to supply negative.
  • USB-C on the enclosure to the laptop (data cable). Connector B USB pins are optional — you do not need them for a first connection.

You do not need +12 V MR, injectors or sensors for a first connection. The MCU runs from +12 V Raw.

What success looks like

  1. 01Laptop shows a serial device (COM on Windows, /dev/ttyACM* on Linux).
  2. 02rusEFI Console connects and prints a firmware stamp containing “proteus” and an F7 part.
  3. 03TunerStudio detects, opens the project, and battery voltage plus ECU uptime start moving.

If it does not

  • No COM port: cable, DFU stuck, or driver. Unplug, power-cycle the ECU, try another cable (charge-only cables will fail).
  • COM port but console timeout: wrong port, TunerStudio already has it open, or firmware crashed. Close TS, retry, then DFU.
  • Connects then drops: ground loop between laptop PSU and bench supply. Run the laptop on battery.
  • Signature mismatch: INI is for a different board. Load the F7 Proteus INI.
